This chronology collects dated decrees, laws, religious declarations, diplomatic letters and institutional resolutions that repudiated a form of Jew-hatred or removed a discriminatory rule. Each entry pairs the correction with a challenge: what the publication left intact, how its protection remained conditional or paternalistic or how the issuing institution failed to enforce its declared principle. The challenges do not erase real improvements. They prevent a partial reform from being mistaken for the end of the surrounding system of Jew-hatred.
- Pope Innocent IV outlawed persecution of יהודים YEHUDIM through blood libels. Challenge: Three years earlier, the same pope had ordered התלמוד HAʾTALMUD and its commentaries burned; his protection rejected one lethal accusation while preserving papal domination over Jewish religious life.
- The French National Constituent Assembly granted full equal rights to יהודים YEHUDIM. Challenge: Equality was framed through individual citizenship rather than recognition of Jewish peoplehood, and French ruler Napoleon I later suspended parts of Jewish emancipation.
- Turkish ruler Abdülmecid I rejected blood libels against יהודים YEHUDIM. Challenge: The firman made Jewish safety depend upon imperial protection and did not prevent another blood libel in Aleppo thirteen years later.
- The Second Vatican Council rejected collective Jewish guilt for Jesus's death. Challenge: It continued to call the Church the
new people of God,
while the later Catholic Catechism made recognition of Jesus byall Israel
a precondition for his return. - U.S. secretary of state George Shultz directed the U.S. embassy in Damascus to confront Syria over The Matzah of Zion. Challenge: The protest did not stop the book; Syria later promoted its blood libel before the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
- The United Nations revoked the resolution declaring ציונות ẒIYONUT to be racism. Challenge: Revocation removed the formal UN determination but did not remove the slogan or the premise that national self-determination by יהודים YEHUDIM is uniquely illegitimate.
