the movement to combat the Jews began to grow in Eastern Europe. The first person to establish this movement in Vienna was von Schonerer, and the first party to follow it was the Christian Social Party, headed by Dr. Lueger, the former mayor of Vienna, under whose protection the movement grew and gained many adherents.

From his observation of conditions in Vienna, Hitler reached the following conclusions: "If a person examines any of the conditions working to destroy the nation's existence, he finds a Jewish hand in it. In the press, cinema and theater in Austria one hears innumerable Jewish names. Nine-tenths of what they call obscene literature was written by Jewish pens, in addition to the vulgar and cheap art they presented in the theaters." From that time, Hitler says, he no longer avoided the Jewish question or discussion of it, but expressed the foregoing openly and emphatically.

Hitler claimed to have unmasked and shown the people how Jews controlled the Social Democratic newspapers and issued them themselves: Jews were their directors and editors-in-chief and also edited the party's political bulletins. The Social Democratic leaders were therefore no more than playthings in Jewish hands. Hitler observed the same condition among the followers of Marx, judged the danger that supposedly threatened the German people, and began to think about saving the people from it and confronting it.
