The Netherlands insisted on this provision more strongly than on any other, until it nearly obstructed the treaty as a whole. This forced Indonesia to accept it. The United States of America undertook to double the amounts paid to the foreign missions, as a donation to these foreign institutions. There is a lesson in this that opens eyes and inner vision to the danger of the intellectual invasion that concerns the colonialists more than military and economic invasion, because whoever controls ideas and hearts controls everything in the country. So take heed, people of insight.

The policy of the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine was, and remains, to strengthen Palestine’s ties with the Arab and Islamic countries and with the eastern countries of Asia and Africa. Therefore, when the Bandung Committee invited Jawaharlal Nehru to convene the Asian Conference in Delhi in January 1949 to support the Indonesian cause, the Arab Committee promptly sent a representative to that conference, the first of its kind in the history of popular liberation movements in Asia. The Committee’s representative attended the conference, presented the Palestine cause there, and announced Palestine’s support for the Indonesian cause.
When preliminary contacts and discussions began among the five Colombo countries about convening a conference to examine the affairs and causes of the peoples of the East, the Arab Committee quickly contacted those countries to include the Palestine cause on their agenda.
