[Sayyid Qutb] method, under the guise of research, science, literature, art, and journalism. They weaken its foundations and diminish the standing of both creed and law. They interpret it and burden it with what it cannot bear. They constantly hammer at its “backwardness.” They call for escape from it and for removing it from the sphere of life, out of concern for it against life, or out of concern for life against it. They invent concepts, ideals, and rules for feeling and conduct that contradict and destroy the creed’s concepts and ideals. They adorn those invented concepts to the same degree that they disfigure the concepts and ideals of faith. They unleash desires from their restraints and crush the moral foundation on which the clean creed stands, so that it may emerge from the mire they scatter across the earth. They disfigure all of history and distort it just as they distort texts.

And yet they are Muslims! Do they not bear Muslim names? With those Muslim names they announce Islam at the beginning of the day, and with these efforts they disbelieve at its end. Through this and that, “they perform the Jews’ old role.” Only the form and frame of that old role change.

Make a display of Islam, with your nominal proof in hand, at the beginning of the day, and disbelieve at its end, so that the Muslims might turn back from their religion.

Let this be a secret among us, disclosed only to those who understand our purpose of eliminating this religion.

“And trust only those who follow your religion.”
