The expulsion of the Jews from England and France, as from Spain, followed by the expulsion of large numbers of them from German cities during the Middle Ages, created the movement to combat the Jews in Eastern Europe, Poland and Russia.

In the eighteenth century Emperor Joseph II granted Jews civil privileges that approached equality with the country's inhabitants. For their part, they tried to imitate the Sephardim by winning the sympathy of their surroundings and giving themselves a European appearance. They did not succeed in playing this role, however, because memory and longing for their eastern Jewish fathers and ancestors repeatedly returned. They boasted of their names and deeds, which prevented them from integrating into the environment in which they lived, even outwardly, as the Sephardi Jews had succeeded in doing. Yet both groups, the chapter claims, worked to realize the Jewish principle of enslaving society through the power of their gold. Although they differed in tact and in the extent to which they displayed an appearance of nobility, their purposes agreed and their aims were one.

When the November Republic was proclaimed in Germany in 1918, oversight of them was weak. The European peoples are said to have suffered greatly from Jews and their exploitation of such circumstances.
