The Templer communal chronology dates the inauguration of the agricultural colony Hamidije-Wilhelma, near Yafo, to 13 April 1903.

An inauguration is a public milestone in the creation of a Christian settlement in ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. It need not be the date of land acquisition, the first arrival or the beginning of construction. The companion names the ceremony precisely so that later retellings do not turn one well-dated act into a complete account of how the colony originated.

How is this dated?

The community chronology supplies 13 April 1903 for inauguration. The fixed-Hebrew daytime reconstruction is 16 Nisan 5663. The source gives no Hebrew date or hour, so the conversion is TJD’s reconstruction. It dates the inauguration alone; earlier occupation and construction require their own evidence.

Guided reflections

  • What does a formal inauguration add to a settlement project already under development?
  • How can a precise ceremony date mislead if it is reused as a first-arrival date?
