During the night of 10–11 April, פלמ״ח PALMAḤ captured قالونيا QALUNYA and destroyed many houses along the road to ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. On 11 April, the humanitarian delegate ז׳אק דה Reynier JACQUES DE entered دير ياسين DEIR YASSIN and arranged care for wounded survivors. The two developments reveal different consequences of the military situation: a supply corridor being secured and direct evidence of people harmed in a separate massacre.

What happened at the road village?

The operational reconstruction identifies יוסף טבנקין YOSEF TABENKIN and אורי בןארי URI BENARI in command and describes mortar fire preceding entry. Residents fled, and dozens of houses were destroyed. פלמ״ח PALMAḤ captured قالونيا QALUNYA. compares those military details with the village study's accounts of earlier departures and fear after the massacre.1 2

Flight under attack cannot be described as unpressured relocation. The evidence also does not establish that all households left at one moment or that a separately documented denial-of-return decision was made today. Demolition itself sharply narrowed the immediate possibility of returning home.

What did the humanitarian inspection establish?

The delegate's original French report says he left at about 09:00 with two ambulances, doctors and medical helpers. He encountered armed restrictions on entry, bodies and wounded survivors. He arranged transport of a wounded girl and later an elderly woman.3

Claims made to him about bodies removed elsewhere were not his own census. The report explicitly records difficulty accessing those places. Direct observation and a commander's statement therefore support different levels of certainty. The fuller event://5708־12b־29־deir־yassin־massacre preserves that distinction rather than presenting every transmitted number as an ICRC finding.

What happened after the visit?

The report records a radio statement around 21:30 on 11 April and a protest to the national institutions of יהודים YEHUDIM. That nighttime communication belongs after the Hebrew sunset boundary. The report itself is dated 13 April; its later date does not move the rescue visit or broadcast to that day.

Care for surviving individuals is part of the event's history. It does not reconcile the entire victim count or establish that every promised burial and identification procedure was completed.

How is this dated?

This is Day 134 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-04-11, counted from 30 November 1947, using the daytime conversion ב׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ח 2nd 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5708. The route dates the rundown, not every incident mentioned. Occurrence dates, later reportage and retrospective publication are distinguished in each section and linked study. The night of 10–11 April is 2 Nisan. The daytime humanitarian visit is also 2 Nisan; its 21:30 broadcast after sunset is 3 Nisan. The report was written on 13 April. After sunset on this civil date, the adjacent Hebrew route is ג׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ח 3rd 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5708; the daily slot does not assign every described act to its daytime route. This uses the fixed Hebrew calendar’s daytime conversion; occurrence precision and sunset alternatives remain as stated.4

Guided reflections

  • How did national defense and civilian survival intersect in this day’s developments?
  • Which claims depend on direct observation, later reconstruction or a transmitted report?
  • How does separating occurrence, publication and sunset dates change the account?
