What did royal assent actually change?
The parliamentary record lists the Palestine Act 1948 among the laws receiving assent that day. Section 1 provided for ending jurisdiction on 15 May or an earlier appointed day. It did not end rule immediately, create מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL or settle the whole conflict.1 The statute is studied in Royal assent to the Palestine Act..
The national rights of עם ישראל AM YISRAʾEL were not created by this imperial legislation. Institutions of government and defense still had to make sovereignty practicable while protecting people exposed to attack.
How did the neighborhood fighting relate to encirclement?

It also dates the main village attacks of מבצע חמץ MIVẒA ḤAMEẒ to 29 April. These are distinct contested stages, not evidence of the city’s completed surrender.2 The neighborhood and campaign are treated in הארגון HAʾIRGUN captured a neighborhood. and Encirclement of יפו YAFO by ההגנה HAʾHAGANA..
Loss of surrounding villages, damage and flight weakened the city’s connections. No single departure mechanism is inferred for every family. Reported killed-or-missing totals must not silently become verified deaths.
What did the commentary published that day predict?
DeWitt MacKenzie’s syndicated article discussed international intervention and a truce as ways of averting broader war. Its predictions and proposals are analyzed in Reportage that the English Empire's withdrawal from ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL may precipitate all-out war.. The publication date does not establish the occurrence date of every diplomatic statement it repeated. Its inherited transcription is identified, and editorial placeholders from the old article have been removed.
