What institutional work did the diary record?
דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION drafted a proposed oath for צה״ל ẒAHAL, adapting earlier military language to allegiance to the state, its laws and authorities. The full study דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION drafted the oath of צה״ל ẒAHAL. corrects the earlier claim that the army was sworn in on 30 May. The defense archive dates the senior commanders’ ceremony to 27 June, while the ordinance and general order were separate steps.1 2
How were preparations affected by the war?
The same diary discusses the defense of ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM and reports on military plans while the leadership was turning an underground structure into a state army. The proposed attack at לטרון LATRUN was delayed; the supported second assault belongs to the following night. A plan, postponement and actual attack cannot be assigned one occurrence date simply because they concern the same objective.3 4
What did the newspaper issue report afterward?
The 30 May JTA issue reports the Old City quarter’s fall using relative afternoon wording. Its issue date is preserved as reportage attached to event://5708־02־19־jewish־quarter־surrenders, whose surrender date is 28 May. The same source reports the struggle for the highway, without supplying a finished casualty register for every road engagement. This day’s recap therefore combines a supported 30 May institutional act with clearly labeled contemporary coverage of earlier events.5
How is this dated?

Guided reflections
- Why must the 30 May oath proposal remain distinct from the 27 June ceremony?
- How should a postponed plan at לטרון LATRUN be distinguished from the next night’s assault?
