Egyptian forces took ניצנים NIẒANIM, while the leadership of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL worked on supply, intelligence and property administration. The battle and the day's administrative discussions belong to different kinds of evidence; neither supplies a complete daily casualty or displacement total.

What happened to the defenders and their families?

The full study event://5708־02־29־ניצנים־defeated NIẒANIM follows the assault, surrender, prisoners and conflicting casualty categories. The 7 June diary records shelling and a distress call, while the following day's entry reports the fall. Evacuated children were already away; their earlier departure should not be counted again today. The signaler's surviving family also prevents an unsupported claim that her death ended her whole family.1 2 3

What did the property inventory describe?

The diary gives a list totaling about 22,000 people and 349,465 dunams in particular villages. This was an inventory concerning previous changes, not a count of 22,000 people newly displaced today or all refugees from the war. The earlier proposal is studied in יוסף ויץ YOSEF WEITZ proposed a policy of retroactive transfer..4

The entry discusses sale or transfer of Arab property, factories in יפו YAFO, and disagreement over private property belonging to people who remained. The recorded restriction on taking private domestic property did not automatically protect every kind of property. A proposed transfer, a government position and a completed transaction require separate evidence.

How was state authority still being organized?

The same entry discusses dividing military, internal and external intelligence responsibilities. A blueprint in the diary is not proof that every proposed service existed in its final form that evening. It also records delays in preparing the supply bypass and plans for jeeps, animals and porters. The capital's access depended upon these practical decisions as well as battlefield positions.5

How is this dated?

This is Day 191 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-07. Its public daytime route is כ״ט באייר ה׳תש״ח 29th 𝑜𝑓 Iyar, AM 5708. After local sunset, the Hebrew date is א׳ בסיון ה׳תש״ח 1st 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This recap covers the civil day and separately identifies overnight occurrences, diary receipts, newspaper issues and later interpretation. The dated source and linked studies provide the occurrence evidence; the register’s slot is not proof of every event’s hour.6

Guided reflections

  • Why cannot the village inventory be read as a same-day displacement count?
  • How does a prisoner’s continued life change the meaning of a locality’s defeat?
