The first truce began at 06:00 GMT, equivalent to 10:00 local. Before that deadline, דוד מרכוס DAVID MARKUS died near Abu Ghosh, and מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL liberated بئر عسلوج BIR ʿASLUJ in an operation with severe losses. The start of the truce is not the date or cause of every death reported in its first newspaper issues.

When did the ceasefire become operative?

The complete event://5708־03־04־first־truce־begins distinguishes 9 June acceptances from today's implementation. Its restrictions addressed military reinforcement, war imports and armed action. They did not restore every civilian service or end the invading armies' occupation.1 2

What happened before the deadline?

The revised event://5708־03־04־דוד־marcus־killed DAVID follows the commander's accidental shooting by an Israeli sentry around 03:50. Later press accounts of death in battle or an Arab bullet conflict with the memorial and historical reconstruction. Their publication dates are dates of circulation, not new fatal incidents.3 4

The study מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL liberated بئر عسلوج BIR ʿASLUJ. describes an early-morning attack and an explosion at the police building. Its later total of 15 dead must remain separate from the 14 June diary's 13 dead,2 missing and 9 wounded. The explicit institutional 11 June timetable conflicts with the diary's day before the truce wording; the original log is still needed.5 6

What did contemporary political criticism establish?

Reportage describes הארגון HAʾIRGUN criticizing the government's acceptance and דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION calling for observance. The critical broadcast establishes criticism and political division; it does not prove that every member disobeyed the ceasefire. Organizations joining the army and units still separately operating around the capital must not be treated as one undifferentiated command.7

Why do relative newspaper dates matter?

An 11 June report speaks of a deadline approaching and a truce due tomorrow. Its issue label does not date every listed engagement after the ceasefire. The original dispatch header is required before classifying each incident as a truce violation.8

How is this dated?

This is Day 195 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-11. Its public daytime route is ד׳ בסיון ה׳תש״ח 4th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. After local sunset, the Hebrew date is ה׳ בסיון ה׳תש״ח 5th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This recap covers the civil day and separately identifies overnight occurrences, diary receipts, newspaper issues and later interpretation. The dated source and linked studies provide the occurrence evidence; the register’s slot is not proof of every event’s hour.9

Guided reflections

  • What must be established before an incident is counted as a post-deadline violation?
  • Why do the commander’s death and the Asluj explosion require separate casualty records?
