שבועות ŜAVUʾOT began after sunset on 12 June and continued through 13 June in ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. The diary reports supplies reaching ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM during that night. Relief, festival observance and continued preparation for war coexisted; the truce did not mean the state's vulnerability had ended.

What reached the capital during the festival?

The study Supplies reached ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM during שבועות ŜAVUʾOT. follows the reported 52 tons transported with 500 porters and distinguishes the future target of 150 tons. The identity of each porter and a final recipient manifest remain unknown. A later newspaper's first-motorcade and holiday wording does not override this diary's dated delivery or prove no earlier supplies arrived.1 2 3

What did port capacity and fuel estimates mean?

The diary discusses a capacity of 1,500–1,600 tons per day at יפו YAFO and תל אביב TEL AVIV, ships waiting at חיפה HAIFA, and fuel sufficient for about a month. Capacity is not today's unloaded tonnage; stocks in a refinery are not necessarily fuel available to the state. Considering purchases abroad does not establish that a cargo was already en route or delivered.4

How was army authority still being consolidated?

The entry records decisions and disagreement about command appointments, training, ranks and the army oath. A decision to arrange an oath is not evidence that every soldier took it that day. The earlier draft is studied in דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION drafted the oath of צה״ל ẒAHAL., whose body distinguishes drafting from the later ceremony.

The diary also preserves allegations that a brigade withheld provisions and interfered with transport. The complaints show a live struggle over command and supplies; they do not by themselves establish every allegation or its later disciplinary outcome.5

How is this dated?

This is Day 197 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-13. Its public daytime route is ו׳ בסיון ה׳תש״ח 6th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. After local sunset, the Hebrew date is ז׳ בסיון ה׳תש״ח 7th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This recap covers the civil day and separately identifies overnight occurrences, diary receipts, newspaper issues and later interpretation. The dated source and linked studies provide the occurrence evidence; the register’s slot is not proof of every event’s hour.6

Guided reflections

  • How could festival relief coexist with continuing fuel and water insecurity?
  • What distinguishes port capacity from a documented cargo received that day?
