A long commanders' conference and a temporary camp-custody agreement marked 18 June. One assessed the force defending מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL; the other regulated access to military installations during the English Empire's remaining withdrawal. Both occurred during the first truce.

What did the commanders review?

The full account צה״ל ẒAHAL commanders reviewed the fighting during the truce. distinguishes reported cumulative losses from soldiers killed on this date. The conference ran from 09:00 to 19:00 and exposed exhaustion, command problems and differing proposals for future action. Force availability was a working assessment rather than a completed audited roll.1

What did temporary custody accomplish?

The agreement studied in An agreement placed military camps under temporary United Nations custody. placed vacated camps under United Nations custody while keeping צה״ל ẒAHAL out pending the scheduled withdrawal. June 18 dates the agreement; June 30 remained the withdrawal endpoint. The report does not establish immediate possession by צה״ל ẒAHAL of all the installations.2

Why must observer equipment remain separate?

The mediator's report also dates receipt of American vehicles and radio equipment to June 18, followed by equipment from the English Empire on June 19. Those were resources for truce observers, not an arms shipment to צה״ל ẒAHAL. Different recipients matter even when the deliveries appear in a single official narrative.3

The truce made time for organization but did not make defense unnecessary. Today's source record shows military assessment and supervised withdrawal; it supplies no defensible combined daily casualty or displacement total.

How is this dated?

The public Ivrit route uses the standard Gregorian-to-Hebrew calendar conversion; the event evidence and sunset qualification follow. This is Day 202 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-18. 18 June 1948 is the supported civil date. The daytime date is י״א בסיון ה׳תש״ח 11th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708; after local sunset it is י״ב בסיון ה׳תש״ח 12th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This is the civil-day recap. Its component sections distinguish occurrences, receipt of reports, earlier events and future plans; a register slot is not proof of every hour. 4

Guided reflections

  • Why does a commander’s cumulative loss report differ from a daily casualty total?
  • How did exhaustion constrain the military force available after the truce?
