On June 20, preparations for defense continued while the Altalena reached the coast. Its unloading began at night and therefore belongs to a different Hebrew date from the daytime civil-day slot. This recap keeps the preparations and the landing distinct.
What was tested in the morning?
The diary describes a morning visit at הרצליה HERẒLIYA involving scientific and weapons work. A demonstration or test is evidence of preparation; it does not prove that every device was adopted, mass-produced or used in battle that day.1
Which figures described an earlier period?
The entry also transmits reports about mobilization and losses, including a tally linked to June 6. Those are cumulative or previously dated assessments, not forty thousand new recruits or over a thousand deaths occurring on June 20. The source's internal dates govern each figure.2
When did passengers begin disembarking?
The full study The Altalena began unloading יהודים YEHUDIM. compares the later naval testimony, scholarly chronology and the mediator's different June 21 formulation. The 23 June diary places unloading at approximately 22:00 Sunday June 20, correcting a mistaken weekday in the account. That nighttime occurrence belongs to 14 Sivan rather than this recap's daytime 13 Sivan.3
The passengers, the weapons and competing claims of authority posed separate questions. Their arrival cannot turn everyone aboard into a combatant or move the later shore clash and shelling onto June 20. Those events receive their own articles and dating defenses.
How is this dated?
The public Ivrit route uses the standard Gregorian-to-Hebrew calendar conversion; the event evidence and sunset qualification follow. This is Day 204 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-20. 20 June 1948 is the supported civil date. The daytime date is י״ג בסיון ה׳תש״ח 13th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708; after local sunset it is י״ד בסיון ה׳תש״ח 14th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This is the civil-day recap. Its component sections distinguish occurrences, receipt of reports, earlier events and future plans; a register slot is not proof of every hour. 4
