The Altalena burned off תל אביב TEL AVIV after צה״ל ẒAHAL shelled it on June 22. Cabinet deliberation, the artillery action and מנחם בגין MENAḤEM BEGIN's later address were different stages of a crisis over weapons and military authority.
What action followed the government decision?
The full article event://5708־03־15־altalena־fired־upon compares the dated diary and next day's naval testimony. The source's mistaken naval-gun wording is corrected to a field cannon; the following account distinguishes naval operations from shore fire on Tuesday afternoon. The old article's 21 Sivan route cannot stand for this event.1 2
Which casualties belong to the whole affair?
Sixteen הארגון HAʾIRGUN deaths and three צה״ל ẒAHAL deaths are the memorial total for the wider confrontation. They must not all be attributed to the shelling at this shore. The main article preserves the separate later allocation between כפר ויתקין KFAR VITKIN and תל אביב TEL AVIV and the absence of a fully compared nominal roll.3
When did the address take place?
מנחם בגין MENAḤEM BEGIN's address is dated June 22 at night, although its reproduced publication is later. It defended his account of the negotiations and opposed civil war. The speech supplies his position, not an independent verdict on every disputed promise. The after-sunset speech has a different Hebrew boundary from the daytime shelling.4
A museum photograph catalog also dates a photograph of the ship under fire to June 22. The catalog is corroboration of an identified visual record; it is not an artillery log or a means of identifying every person killed.5
The crisis tested the state's monopoly of force during an external war. Its interpretation belongs with the evidence of orders, casualties and restraint, rather than a single sentence attributing all losses to one shot.
How is this dated?
The public Ivrit route uses the standard Gregorian-to-Hebrew calendar conversion; the event evidence and sunset qualification follow. This is Day 206 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-22. 22 June 1948 is the supported civil date. The daytime date is ט״ו בסיון ה׳תש״ח 15th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708; after local sunset it is ט״ז בסיון ה׳תש״ח 16th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This is the civil-day recap. Its component sections distinguish occurrences, receipt of reports, earlier events and future plans; a register slot is not proof of every hour. 6
