On June 25, obstruction of a southern relief convoy and renewed fighting at البروة AL-BIRWA tested the first truce. דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION's diary also records a visit to ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM and discussions of supplies, housing and unauthorized confiscations.

Why did the relief convoy return?

The article Egyptian forces obstructed a relief convoy to the נגב NEGEV. compares the official mediator's report, diary message and later newspaper account. Egyptian forces blocked passage, and the official account also records fire on the observer aircraft. The wider newspaper wording about strafing the convoy is not treated as independently established.1 2

What did observers find at the village?

The study Fighting resumed at البروة AL-BIRWA. preserves differing onset and possession narratives while identifying June 25 as the secure observer encounter. The observer investigation attributed the initiating truce violation to the Arab side. Military casualty claims remain unverified, and returning to harvest cannot be replaced by an assumed permanent return home.3

What had reached the capital before this day?

The diary describes 2,200 tons plus another 600 received by June 24. These are earlier receipts, not 2,800 tons newly arriving on June 25. Household, registration and departure figures likewise use different categories and periods. They cannot be added to manufacture one daily displacement total.4

What did the confiscation discussion reveal?

The diary records allegations of unauthorized confiscations and the need to address them. Those reports make misuse of authority visible without proving every allegation or identifying a legal order for each seizure. A housing allocation, confiscation and expulsion remain separate acts requiring their own records.5

A truce did not guarantee that communities could move provisions, recover homes or trust every exercise of force. The day's records establish concrete incidents and administrative concerns rather than an audited tally of all harm.

How is this dated?

The public Ivrit route uses the standard Gregorian-to-Hebrew calendar conversion; the event evidence and sunset qualification follow. This is Day 209 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-06-25. 25 June 1948 is the supported civil date. The daytime date is י״ח בסיון ה׳תש״ח 18th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708; after local sunset it is י״ט בסיון ה׳תש״ח 19th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. This is the civil-day recap. Its component sections distinguish occurrences, receipt of reports, earlier events and future plans; a register slot is not proof of every hour. 6

Guided reflections

  • How could blocking civilian supplies maintain military pressure during a truce?
  • Why must firing on an observer aircraft be distinguished from firing on the convoy?
