On 30 June 1948, an intelligence report assessed earlier Arab displacement and the English Empire reached the announced date of its final military withdrawal from חיפה HAIFA. One was an analysis of previous movement; the other marked the end of the remaining imperial troop presence. Neither created a new independence date.

What did the displacement assessment count?

The An intelligence report assessed Arab displacement. chiefly covers December 1 through June 1, with later updates. Its estimate 391, 000 and 10–15 percent error margin describe a cumulative assessment, not departures that day. It attributed the greatest share to military action by forces of יהודים YEHUDIM and its effects.1 2

Its categories distinguish direct attacks, neighboring effects, Arab orders, ultimatums and fear. Military causation cannot alone classify each household's departure as expulsion. The 5 percent village figure and 70 percent resident figure also have different denominators.

What ended at the port?

The event://5708־03־23־last־british־forces־leave separates the completed military withdrawal from the earlier termination of the Mandate. The parliamentary answer announced the last forces' departure that day, and the Israeli film archive catalogs the departure. Exact ship and camp inventories remain unexamined.3 4

The departure changed access and defense responsibilities around the port. Temporary United Nations custody of vacated camps had its own agreement date, and a final troop departure did not establish that every store or installation passed intact to Israeli control.

Which later account describes a gift made today?

The July 1 diary says a Dutch benefactor had given an important boat yesterday. That is retrospective evidence for a reported June 30 gift, not a new July 1 transfer or a verified operational deployment. The next day's airfield visit is separate.5

No verified whole-day fatality or displacement total follows from these sources. Their importance lies in the institutions’ own records of power, population movement and the changing military landscape.

How is this dated?

This is the civil-day recap for 30 June 1948, Day 214 counted inclusively from 30 November 1947. The public OTD route is כ״ג בסיון ה׳תש״ח 23rd 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708, the daytime Hebrew date converted from the Gregorian calendar; after local sunset it is כ״ד בסיון ה׳תש״ח 24th 𝑜𝑓 Sivan, AM 5708. The route dates this recap, not every earlier act recounted in its sources. 6 7

Guided reflections

  • Why can the intelligence estimate not be entered as new June 30 departures?
  • Which distinction separates temporary camp custody from completed troop withdrawal?
