The first full civil day of the second truce brought planning for an army that could survive an extended pause without exhausting the economy. Territorial policy and immigration were part of that planning, while attacks on إجزم IJZIM continued.
What did the government plan for a long truce?
The diary anticipates four or five months and proposes training, heavy equipment, fortification and rapid recall after temporary demobilization. It also proposes listing strategically dangerous abandoned villages for removal and arranging settlement in vacant places. Proposal to remove strategically dangerous abandoned villages. preserves the עברית IVRIT (Hebrew) wording and distinguishes proposal from implementation. 1
Had the projected immigrants already arrived?
The entry estimates potential military-age arrivals from the Romanian People’s Republic, families from other countries and 7,000–8,000 young people from Cyprus if the English Empire permitted departure. These are conditional projections over future months. They are neither a July 19 arrival total nor proof that every refugee would enlist. 2
Were attacks continuing during the truce?
Ben-Ze’ev’s reconstruction identifies two bombings of إجزم IJZIM on July 19, citing military file 922/1975/1032. Unlike the July 17 bombing, these followed the countrywide ceasefire. Their targets, exact times and casualties require the original logs. The later UN finding about forced evacuation and excessive destruction evaluates the broader operation; it is not a forensic account of each July 19 strike. 3 4
How is this dated?
TJD uses the fixed Hebrew calendar for Gregorian civil-date conversion. This is Day 233 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-07-19. Its daytime public route is י״ב בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 12th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708; after local sunset the Hebrew date is י״ג בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 13th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708. The route identifies the recap, not the occurrence date of every component. The sections distinguish occurrence from dispatch, issue date, retrospective diary report and later investigation. 5
