Commanders worked to make the capital’s ceasefire lines enforceable while the government examined aviation’s technical and command weaknesses. The truce required administrative labor as well as promises to stop shooting.
What was signed in ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM?
JTA reported a line agreement under the UN Consular Truce Commission and a field inspection of demarcation positions. The lines referred to positions held at the July 17 local ceasefire. An Egyptian meeting was separate because the Egyptian and Legion commands could not agree among themselves. Agreement defining truce lines in ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. distinguishes this arrangement from a peace treaty or sovereign boundary. 1
What did air-force consultation expose?
The diary records Cecil Margo’s consultation, training proposals, inadequate maintenance arrangements and weak coordination between the air, land and naval services. Buying aircraft did not provide airfields, experienced crews or instruments for repairs. The later July 26 decision receives a distinct study, Reorganization of the air force of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL.; proposals discussed today are not completed appointments. 2
What did the minister’s visit establish?
A JTA bulletin published July 23 dates the Minister of Minorities’ visit to נצרת NAẒRAT and עכו AKO to yesterday. בכור שטרית BEḤOR SHITRIT met civilian representatives about resuming administration and improving conditions. Its estimate of 60,000 Arab residents in the wider region is journalistic, not a verified census. Continued municipal life followed the prevention of mass expulsion; it does not prove unrestricted civilian life. 3
The government also submitted allegations of Arab truce violations to UN representatives. The complaint is evidence of the submission, not a finding validating every allegation. 4
How is this dated?
TJD uses the fixed Hebrew calendar for Gregorian civil-date conversion. This is Day 236 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-07-22. Its daytime public route is ט״ו בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 15th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708; after local sunset the Hebrew date is ט״ז בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 16th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708. The route identifies the recap, not the occurrence date of every component. The sections distinguish occurrence from dispatch, issue date, retrospective diary report and later investigation. 5
