The July 30 diary identifies a need for 800 signal personnel and a proposal to recruit approximately 5,000 women from specified birth cohorts. These are requirements and projections, not 5,800 people entering service that day. The 7th Brigade’s reported 1,547 personnel against an establishment of 2,182 leaves a shortfall of 635; that is not a death toll. 1

How were former independent fighters incorporated?

The same briefing describes 120 former הארגון HAʾIRGUN members in the 72nd Battalion, including men associated with Altalena, and discussions about grouping soldiers by language. These are concrete signs of incorporation into צה״ל ẒAHAL. They do not establish complete integration of every independent armed group or that every proposed language arrangement was implemented. 2

Whose memorial death date falls on this day?

יעקב מרקוביץ YAʾAKOV MARKOVITZ’s institutional memorial gives July 30, 23 תמוז TAMUZ. The existing incident article distinguishes his date from eight deaths recorded on July 25. His medical course and exact hour remain unresolved; it is not inferred from the later date alone that he died of wounds received on July 25. 3

JTA’s July 30 issue also reported southern fighting and supply difficulties from an ישראלי YISRAʾELI military account. Its broader immigration estimate covers an interval, not arrivals on July 30 alone. 4
