The GYS 2 convoy reached נגב NEGEV during the overnight movement from July 31. On the Iraqi front, an attack south of Beisan began another incident later investigated by the UN truce authorities.

What did the convoy achieve?

The convoy study explains the reported arrival at רוחמה RUḤAMA, after two trucks failed at a wadi and another struck a mine. Twenty-four continuing trucks is the result of subtracting three from the twenty-seven departures. A damaged half-track was towed in. The escort and covering positions then withdrew; the passage did not keep a permanent road open. 1

What did the UN later find about the Iraqi-front attack?

A press release issued August 20 dates the Iraqi attack at Tall ar-Radgha, south of Beisan, to August 1. It reports that Iraqi troops later obeyed a withdrawal directive, while ישראלי YISRAʾELI troops moved into the vacated positions contrary to the directive. The board ruled that the area should become no-man’s-land. The report attributed the outbreak to the Iraqi army while identifying a separate ישראלי YISRAʾELI breach. 2

Only the outbreak is explicitly dated August 1. The later withdrawal, ישראלי YISRAʾELI movement and board ruling are not all assigned to that day. The findings allowed further review if new facts emerged. No verified person-level casualty or displacement total accompanies this incident.

What was being reported in ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM?

JTA’s August 1 issue described משה דיין MOŜE DAYAN warning residents and troops to prepare for renewed hostilities. Readiness under the truce was not proof that a general offensive had begun. The isolated southern convoy and preparations in ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM illustrate different security problems and must not be merged into one engagement. 3

How is this dated?

TJD uses the fixed Hebrew calendar for Gregorian civil-date conversion. This is Day 246 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-08-01. Its daytime route is כ״ה בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 25th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708; events after local sunset belong to כ״ו בתמוז ה׳תש״ח 26th 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5708. The daily recap keeps this civil-date slot distinct from each component’s occurrence, decision, death, dispatch and publication dates. The convoy history dates the night July 31–August 1. The August 20 UN release separately dates the Iraqi attack to August 1. 4
