A reported call for a general strike and boycott made organized Arab opposition to the partition recommendation visible in the first days of the war. The call's publication and the strike's start were different events.
What strike and boycott did the JTA report?
On 18 Kislev 5708, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that the Arab Higher Committee had called a three-day general strike and economic boycott, scheduled to begin the next day. The article is evidence that the call had entered public English-language reporting; without the original Committee proclamation, it does not establish when the decision was taken, the exact directive, or how widely it was followed.1
The report also covered the previous day's bus attacks and other violence. Its six-death headline aggregates events beyond the buses and should not be cited as a final count for the Fajja attacks. The article's publication is the event dated here; the Committee's underlying decision remains undated in the evidence now reviewed.

How is this dated?
This is Day 2 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1947-12-01. Its OTD route, 5708-09-18, is the daytime fixed-Hebrew conversion of that civil date, not a claim that every action mentioned here occurred before sunset.2 The adjacent Hebrew date after local sunset is 19 Kislev 5708 (5708-09-19). The JTA report is dated 1 December; the planned strike began on 2 December. The original Arab Higher Committee order and its issue hour have not been examined, so the report date cannot be substituted for the Committee's decision date. Newspaper issue dates, dispatch dates and later testimony are kept distinct from occurrence dates.
