Dvora Yaari Wald died on 23 Kislev 5708 from wounds suffered in the attack on the buses carrying יהודים YEHUDIM near Fajja six days earlier. Her memorial says her husband Shalom was shot while helping her and later died; their son Haim had died the year before. It records that Dvora was buried beside them.1

This is a later death from wounds, not another person killed at the scene on 17 Kislev. The family record does not establish that Dvora was a Holocaust survivor or that her immediate losses exhausted all surviving relatives. No such claim is made here.

How is this dated?

The memorial dates Dvora's death to 6 December 1947 and 23 Kislev 5708. The bus attack itself occurred on 30 November, 17 Kislev; the two events retain separate dates. The memorial page's Hebrew text was checked in the supplied research report, although its text did not render in the current browser extraction.2

Guided reflections

  • Why must a death from wounds remain separate from the attack date in a casualty chronology?
  • What can this memorial establish about Dvora's immediate family, and what would be required before making a claim about Holocaust survival or wider kin?
