Yaakov Rosenberg was shot near location://BatYam in the morning. דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION separately discussed the shape of a future army for יהודים YEHUDIM while British authority and several armed organizations still operated.
What happened to יעקב רוזנברג YAʾAKOV ROSENBERG?
יעקב רוזנברג YAʾAKOV ROSENBERG was shot near location://BatYam on the morning of 22 December 1947. The National Insurance memorial records both the morning and 9 Tevet. The attack killed a civilian among יהודים YEHUDIM during road and neighborhood fighting under the Mandate. The memorial identifies his wife Nehama and son Noah; these names make the household consequence visible rather than reducing the murder to a tally. 1
Noah Rosenberg was killed in a separate event on 18 May 1948. The later family tragedy must not be moved backward or counted as a second 22 December fatality. The currently available source does not establish the identity of Yaakov’s killer or that either father or son was the last surviving member of a Holocaust family.
The death belongs to the Under the Mandate chronology because the British administration still governed ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. The family’s later history can be linked when that later date is ingested.

What army was being planned?
On 22 December 1947, דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION recorded discussions about how the community of יהודים YEHUDIM would organize an army after sovereignty. The diary is a direct record of his deliberation under British rule, when the ההגנה HAʾHAGANA and other armed organizations did not yet constitute the army of an independent state. 2
The planning matters because national defense required recruitment, command and civilian authority, not only armed neighborhood responses. Yet a leader’s diary cannot establish that every proposed committee, unit or chain of command began operating that day. The separately organized הארגון HAʾIRGUN and לח״י LEḤI did not become part of one approved command merely because leaders discussed future integration.
How is this dated?
This is Day 23 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1947-12-22. Its OTD route, 5708-10-09, is the daytime fixed-Hebrew conversion of that civil date, not a claim that every action mentioned here occurred before sunset.3 The adjacent Hebrew date after local sunset is 10 Tevet 5708 (5708-10-10). Rosenberg's memorial gives the morning of 22 December and 9 Tevet. The army discussion is recorded in Ben-Gurion's diary dated 22 December, but without an hour; it is planning, not proof that the new army already existed. Newspaper issue dates, dispatch dates and later testimony are kept distinct from occurrence dates.
