An Associated Press dispatch described the killing of a woman from the community of יהודים YEHUDIM while she hung laundry in location://Haifa. It also reported the killing of three Arab fieldworkers near location://BeerSheva. These are separate attacks on civilians, with distinct perpetrators and unknown victim names.

Who was killed in location://Haifa?

An Associated Press dispatch dated 24 December 1947 reports that a woman from the community of יהודים YEHUDIM in location://Haifa was shot while hanging laundry. The ordinary act identifies a civilian exposed to neighborhood gunfire. The accessible newspaper reproduction does not supply her name, the sniper’s identity or an independently audited death certificate. 1

The report belongs to the armed fighting in location://Haifa, but it should not be absorbed into a battle-wide total without matching a person to the incident. Nor does this one killing establish that every shot in the area came from the same group. Her unnamed status in the accessible report is a research gap, not a reason to omit her from the war’s civilian history.

The dispatch also describes separate deaths of Arab agricultural workers in the south. Those deaths have their own event study and are not consequences of the sniper in location://Haifa shot.

What happened to the Hanajra workers?

An Associated Press dispatch dated 24 December 1947 reports that armed יהודים YEHUDIM killed three Arab members of the Hanajra while they were plowing near location://BeerSheva. The report identifies agricultural work, not a combat role. The names of the three people and the original police inquiry have not been obtained in this batch. 2

This was a reported killing of Arab civilians by armed יהודים YEHUDIM. Recording it does not erase the contemporary attacks on יהודים YEHUDIM; it identifies a separate responsible actor and victims. A later account suggests a late-morning time near Imara, but the original report supporting that hour has not been inspected, so the exact Hebrew placement remains provisional.

The killing is not evidence that the wider Hanajra population fled, received an evacuation order, was expelled or was denied return. Those outcomes require their own people and place records.

How is this dated?

This is Day 25 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1947-12-24. Its OTD route, 5708-10-11, is the daytime fixed-Hebrew conversion of that civil date, not a claim that every action mentioned here occurred before sunset.3 The adjacent Hebrew date after local sunset is 12 Tevet 5708 (5708-10-12). The AP dispatch is datelined 24 December and explicitly describes the killings as events of that civil day; it was printed on 25 December. Plowing supports a daytime working placement for the Hanajra killing at 11 Tevet, but no original police log fixes its hour. The Haifa shooting's sunset side is also unknown. Newspaper issue dates, dispatch dates and later testimony are kept distinct from occurrence dates.
