The United States proposed temporary trusteeship on 19 March 1948 while the Commons adopted a deadline for ending Mandate jurisdiction. On the ground, three named defenders died near نوريس NURIS. Diplomacy and combat were determining whether עם ישראל AM YISRAʾEL could turn the partition decision into independent national life.
What changed at the UN and in Parliament?
Austin sought suspension of partition implementation and a temporary international administration. The United States proposed temporary UN trusteeship for ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. distinguishes his proposal from a UN decision. In London, an agreed amendment placed a 15 May-or-earlier deadline in the bill ending imperial jurisdiction. The Commons adopted a deadline for ending the Mandate. distinguishes that legislative step from the actual end of rule by the English Empire.1 2
The two actions did not establish a settled succession. One defined an approaching end to imperial authority; the other sought an alternative to the immediate state-building course.
Who died near the village?
Later memorials describe a platoon of ההגנה HAʾHAGANA's גולני GOLANI Brigade establishing an ambush position before dawn near نوريس NURIS. Armed men from the village and nearby communities responded, and the platoon withdrew after a firefight. דן צביק DAN ẒVIK, nineteen, and חיים ליבין יבין ḤAYIM LIBIN YAVIN, twenty-four, are individually commemorated as killed on 19 March.3 4
The supplied research also identifies נחום Nisht NAḤUM, twenty-six, through the regional memorial. That page could not be recovered in this review, so his biographical details remain attributed to that supplied record. Three named deaths do not establish a complete toll for both sides.5
חיים ליבין יבין ḤAYIM LIBIN YAVIN had served in the imperial army, helped displaced persons in Italy and left a wife and young daughter. His memorial says he died trying to rescue a wounded comrade. These lives show what the abstract need for security demanded of families; no last-survivor-of-the-Holocaust claim is established.
How is this dated?
This is Day 111 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-03-19. Its daytime portion maps to ח׳ באדר ב׳ ה׳תש״ח 8th 𝑜𝑓 Adar II, AM 5708. After local sunset the Hebrew date changes to ט׳ באדר ב׳ ה׳תש״ח 9th 𝑜𝑓 Adar II, AM 5708. The daily route does not assign every reported incident to that Hebrew date.
The diplomatic and parliamentary records bear 19 March. The Nuris memorials give that civil death date and describe a pre-dawn engagement, which falls on 8 Adar II following sunset on 18 March. Exact operational hours and a complete casualty roster remain unverified. The 22 March French headline concerns the 19 March proposal.6 7 8
