Operation נחשון NAHSHON entered its opening movements before dawn on 6 April 1948. ההגנה HAʾHAGANA secured positions for the supply road and seized villages, while הארגון HAʾIRGUN raided an imperial military camp. A convoy reportedly reached ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM, though the arrival accounts preserve a 6–7 April conflict.
What changed along the road?
The event://5708־12b־26־operation־נחשון־begins NAHSHON opened on 5–6 April, rather than an uncontested 6–7 April night. The ההגנה HAʾHAGANA captured خلدة KHULDA. and ההגנה HAʾHAGANA captured دير محيسن DAYR MUḤAYSIN. established control at villages near the western approaches. The latter's initial seizure is alternatively dated 3 or 5 April in village histories and was followed by withdrawal and return. Population estimates are not same-day expulsion counts, and later demolition must not be moved to the capture date.1 2 3
What happened at the military camp?
The הארגון HAʾIRGUN attacked an imperial military camp. began around 07:00. Official reporting describes guards overpowered and shot, further firing and seized weapons. Contemporary death figures vary from six to eight, including an internal inconsistency in the ministerial account. Did food reach the city?
AP's 6 April dispatch reports fifty trucks arriving that day. JTA's 7 April issue also says fifty arrived, with different relative wording. Morris's own descriptions differ in date and vehicle breakdown. The A supply convoy reached ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. therefore uses 6 April provisionally while preserving 7 April and an unresolved convoy identity. One successful delivery did not permanently end the blockade.6 7
What did other reports reveal?
The 6 April JTA issue describes continued fighting at משמר העמק MISHMAR HAEMEK and a claimed 40 Arab deaths. The figure covers reported fighting in an ongoing battle, not a new verified 6 April increment. The local truce and subsequent operations need separate timing.
Later police transcriptions record Mohammed Ahmed Awad killed in an attack on laborers near Moledeth, and Subhi Ibn Adib Jabour killed by shooting near the Jaffa Club. A 12-year-old and other people were reportedly wounded; a Jerusalem child's transcribed age remains unclear. The named victims should remain individual leads without guessing shooters, combatant status or completed investigations.8
Lovett's 06:00 telegram communicated trusteeship principles discussed on 5 April. It was a policy transmission, not establishment of a successor government.9

Guided reflections
- What can reconcile a convoy’s arrival across conflicting issue dates?
- Why should a camp raid be assigned to an organization rather than an entire people?
