On 7 April 1948, the UN commission sought help for the food supply of ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM, national leaders debated government preparations, and fighting continued around القسطل AL-QASTAL. A new assault began late that evening, crossing a Hebrew-date boundary before the next day's death of the Arab commander.

What did the commission decide?

The The UN commission sought protection for the food supply of ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. considered the Agency's warning and conflicting accounts of imperial escort assistance. It agreed on an informal approach to the imperial delegation. The meeting was on 7 April; the written record was issued 15 April. It neither settled blame nor established a completed convoy agreement.1 2

What happened around the hill?

The imperial transcription reports bombs dropped near القسطل AL-QASTAL around 03:50 and 06:05, with aircraft identification uncertain and no casualties reported from those drops. It also records road damage from fighting on 6–7 April while saying the road remained passable. The absence of bombing casualties in an early return does not prove no one was harmed in the wider battle.3

The supplied field report dates a renewed assault to about 22:00 on 7 April. That after-sunset action falls on 28 Adar II, not this daily slot's 27 Adar II. Al-Husayni's death is dated 8 April by the diary and later histories and belongs to the next batch. The פלמ״ח PALMAḤ captured القسطل AL-QASTAL. preserves the distinction between first capture and later fighting.4 5

When did political deliberations begin?

JTA's 7 April issue says the Zionist Actions Committee opened deliberations, but דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION's diary says the meetings ran 6–9 April: he spoke on 6 April and replied on 7 April. This daily Event therefore records 7 April debate and response, not a confidently dated first opening. A proposed government and prospective May date were plans, not an established sovereign state.6 7

Which civilian reports need individual verification?

The later police transcription names Abu Mahmoud Tilawi,60, killed while ploughing and Ribbi Khadouri killed in a taxi incident around 22:00. It records other mine casualties and Ribhi Salim dying after wounds, with his death date unresolved. Khadouri's late attack belongs to 28 Adar II; Salim's wound and death dates must not be collapsed. The original reports and hospital returns remain uninspected.8

The issue's relief-convoy headline expressed hope. The A supply convoy reached ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. study retains competing arrival dates and counts; the road fighting and commission's urgent concern prevent that headline from becoming a claim that the blockade was permanently over.

How is this dated?

This is Day 130 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-04-07. Its public slot is the daytime conversion כ״ז באדר ב׳ ה׳תש״ח 27th 𝑜𝑓 Adar II, AM 5708, 27 Adar II 5708. It is not a claim that every included incident occurred on that Hebrew day. After local sunset, the date becomes כ״ח באדר ב׳ ה׳תש״ח 28th 𝑜𝑓 Adar II, AM 5708. The 22:00 assault and taxi killing belong to 28 Adar II. Al-Husayni death 8 April lies outside this batch. UN meeting 7 April differs from issue 15 April; committee met 6–9. 9 10

Guided reflections

  • Why must a late-night assault and a next-day death remain separate in both calendars?
  • What could original escort correspondence resolve that a commission discussion could not?
