The UN publicly described its objection concerning ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM and examined refugee assets while Syrian decrees concentrated military authority.
What did the public ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM release date?
PAL/478 publicly described the commission’s objection to the planned move of government departments to ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. It refers to a communication on April 1, whereas SR.33 prepared signature March 30 and a later account dates the letter March 30. The ministry study keeps the conflicting clocks; April 2 securely dates the press release.123
What did financial and technical papers propose?
W/8 examined currency-board assets and bond balances frozen in London. W/9/Rev.1 proposed methods for counting refugees, identifying origins and preferences, studying compensation and coordinating relief. The documentary study distinguishes proposed investigation from legal ownership, completed work or paid compensation. At 19:00 the commission deferred substantive asset discussion.456
What did the Syrian representative accept?
Farid Zein ed Din pressed refugee return as a priority independent of an eventual territorial settlement. Commissioners argued that the resolution and connected issues should be treated together. His willingness in principle to continue broader discussions still required confirmation from his government. The record does not establish full authorization by the new military rulers.7
How did military rule contradict democratic promises?
The Syrian commander-in-chief’s April 2 decree concentrated legislative and executive authority; another allowed cancellation of newspaper licenses. The coup study compares these acts with March 30’s rhetoric. They establish legal powers, not every instance of censorship. At its evening session the commission also discussed holy places, recognizing that free access remained unresolved after the fighting.8910
How is this dated?
This is the civil-day recap for 1949-04-02, Day 490 of the 599-day series. The register’s daytime fixed-Hebrew conversion is ג׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ט 3rd 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5709. The civil-day slot does not place every reported occurrence on that Hebrew date: local after-sunset events belong to ד׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ט 4th 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5709, and issue dates remain distinct from earlier events.11
April 2 dates the press release and provider labels on working papers. SR.36’s 19:00 meeting belongs after sunset to 4 Nisan, while the daily slot is 3 Nisan.1213141516

- Why are a financial reserve, a compensation claim and a completed payment different historical quantities?
- How do dated decrees test a military leadership’s earlier promise of democratic freedoms?
