What changed with the signing?

מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL and the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan signed their general armistice at Rhodes. The full treaty study distinguishes the agreement’s military effect from permanent peace. With the earlier Egyptian and Lebanese agreements, this was the third signed general armistice. The convention did not settle final boundaries or establish the king’s sovereignty over every territory held by his army.1

Which civilian guarantees mattered?

Article VI(6) protected residence, property and freedom in the affected villages of the Iraqi-held sector. Residents choosing departure could take movable property and receive land compensation; local Arab police were to provide internal security. The clause was a written protection, not evidence that every household remained, left voluntarily or received payment. The earlier projected number of new refugees was an expectation, not a count of actual departures.2

What still depended on implementation?

Replacement of Iraqi troops and territorial adjustments were staged over weeks. Article VIII assigned a committee road, cemetery, holy-place and institutional access questions. The הר הצופים HAR HAʾẒOFIM institutions and הר הזיתים HAR HAʾZEITIM cemetery therefore remained practical questions for families, staff and mourners. Agreeing a principle did not make each road usable that evening. The major article compares later implementation evidence without treating it as an April 3 outcome.3

How is this dated?

This daily Event covers the civil-day slot April 3, 1949; the established register’s fixed-calendar daytime conversion is ד׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ט 4th 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5709. That route identifies the recap, not the Hebrew occurrence date of every incident. The Rhodes signing was at 19:30 after local sunset and belongs to 5 Nisan, as established in the reused treaty study; the recap remains at 4 Nisan. An after-sunset act within this civil slot belongs to ה׳ בניסן ה׳תש״ט 5th 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5709; it is explained beside the relevant source instead of changing the whole recap. 45
