Preparations for פסח PESAḤ, ceasefire declarations and diplomatic correspondence joined sacred time to the unfinished work of sovereignty.

How did families prepare for פסח PESAḤ?

Communities of יהודים YEHUDIM prepared for the first פסח PESAḤ after the restoration of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL. Camp housing and restricted access to הכותל HAʾKOTEL complicated celebration. The fuller festival study explains the fundraising estimate and separate relief shipments to Europe. The first night begins after sunset, outside this recap’s daytime route.12

What did diplomacy address?

Dean Acheson’s April 13 instructions explored international protection for sacred sites without requiring foreign administration of every part of ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. Mark Ethridge’s separate dispatch examined prior conversations with Michael Comay on refugees and territory. Their positions and assessments do not independently establish the cause of departure in each Palestinian locality. Sovereignty, access and refugee rights remained linked negotiating questions.34

Which occurrences were reported separately?

The parallel ceasefire declarations were signed April 13 and transmitted April 16. Klir’s settlement notice also belonged to this day’s reportage, while the founding of פלמחים PALMAḤIM is dated April 11 by the heritage archive. Neither transmission nor notice creates a second occurrence.56

How is this dated?

This daily Event covers the civil-date slot April 13, 1949, Day 501 of 599, using its daytime fixed-Hebrew route י״ד בניסן ה׳תש״ט 14th 𝑜𝑓 Nisan, AM 5709. The festival begins after sunset on 15 Nisan; the ceasefire signatures are April 13 and their cable April 16; Palmahim’s founding belongs to April 11. After-sunset incidents belong to the following Hebrew day; this civil-day recap does not override their occurrence dates. 78910

Guided reflections

  • What did the first sovereign פסח PESAḤ change for families still living in reception camps?
  • How would UN observer reports test the ceasefire undertakings?
