The working reconstruction for May 6, 1949 places كفر قاسم KAFR QĀSIM under the authority of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL. The same day’s UN committee hearing examined obligations concerning sacred sites, refugees and the killing of the mediator. The records distinguish territorial authority and diplomatic assurances from implementation of residents’ rights.

How is the transfer at كفر قاسم KAFR QĀSIM reconstructed?

Adel Manna gives Friday, May 6 through his citation of al-Yawm’s May 8 issue. The full liberation study preserves this specifically dated evidence and its limits. Article VI(6) of the earlier armistice protects affected inhabitants’ residence, property and freedom. Those legal protections require separate evidence of observance. A reported public welcome neither establishes freely expressed consent nor supplies an expulsion or casualty count.12

What was the UN hearing examining?

The Ad Hoc Political Committee heard אבא אבן ABBA EBAN in connection with the membership application. The published record identifies questions concerning the November 1947 and December 1948 resolutions, sacred sites, refugees, and the assassination of Count Bernadotte and Colonel Sérot. These were obligations and contested issues surrounding the application. A hearing is not the vote admitting מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL to membership.3

What did the newspaper report claim?

The contemporaneous JTA account summarized the delegation’s position on safeguards for sacred sites and the treatment of the refugee question. Its wording is reportage on a representative’s answer, not a property register, investigation file or documented implementation. The source’s issue date does not establish the clock of every statement. The later admission study explains the distinct committee recommendation and plenary decision.4 The surviving evidence supports a hearing and a reported village transfer; it supplies no audited new daily death or displacement total. Unknown totals are not zero. Those omissions remain attached to the relevant event and acquisition records.

How is this dated?

This recap uses the daytime slot ז׳ באייר ה׳תש״ט 7th 𝑜𝑓 Iyar, AM 5709 for May 6. Manna’s newspaper-derived village date remains provisional, with ח׳ באייר ה׳תש״ט 8th 𝑜𝑓 Iyar, AM 5709 as an after-sunset alternative. The UN record identifies a May 6 meeting, while the newspaper account has an issue date. Neither establishes the precise hour of territorial transfer.56

Guided reflections

  • Which records would test the armistice’s residence and property protections at كفر قاسم KAFR QĀSIM?
  • How does a representative’s answer to the UN committee differ from evidence that a promised safeguard was implemented?
