On June 29, 1949, the Conciliation Commission heard the Baqa al-Gharbiyye complaint, and its General Committee scrutinized the state’s refugee-property and family-reunion position. People’s ability to return, recover property and use private funds remained separate practical questions.12
What did the commission learn about Baqa al-Gharbiyye?
Al-Mulki relayed an Amman report received the preceding day concerning roughly 1,500 expelled people. The commission sought details and proposed raising the matter with the delegation of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL. This is contemporary transmission of an allegation subsequently addressed in the major study. It is not the date of another expulsion or a completed ruling.3
Could saving an orchard restore its owner?
The delegation discussed using workers already in the country to cultivate recoverable citrus groves while withholding broader readmission. Wilkins challenged its position on property protection. Family reunion could occur in a different locality from a family’s earlier home. The expanded property study retains these distinctions, including the English reproduction’s mistaken reference to a December 1949 resolution where the context concerns December 1948.4
What economic proposal did the Hashemite Kingdom
of Jordan consider?
of Jordan consider?
The editorial notes to an American telegram describe Abdullah’s June 29 willingness to consider an economic survey subject to funding. A survey proposal does not establish that land, water, employment or housing were supplied, or that refugees agreed to relocation. McDonald’s June 29 report also belongs to today as reportage of the previous day’s conversation with חיים ויצמן ḤAYIM WEIZMANN.56
How is this dated?
SR/LM.24 and Com.Gen/SR.18 give June 29 at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., supporting ב׳ בתמוז ה׳תש״ט 2nd 𝑜𝑓 Tamuz, AM 5709. FRUS 798’s editorial note explicitly assigns the Jordanian conversation June 29. The report received yesterday and McDonald’s earlier conversation retain June 28; Baqa al-Gharbiyye’s expulsion remains the earlier night.789
