Day 315 of 599 of מלחמת העצמאות MILḤEMET HAʾAẒMAʾUT (War of Independence)

The diary records אלימלך אבנר ELIMELEḪ AVNER’s complaints about ministries acting independently in יפו YAFO, רמלה RAMLA and לוד LOD, shortages of personnel and vehicles, and suspected corruption. דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION asked for a factual survey and coordination through the governor. The complaints establish a reported administrative problem, not guilt of each named official. ¹

The diary also records complaints about arrests in נצרת NAẒRAT without sufficient cause and a direction to examine cases and return proven local nonparticipants. Such a direction is not proof that those people were actually released or returned. Nor does a reference to infiltration establish that every person entering a village was an armed infiltrator.

The prison study preserves the diary’s October 9 dating and the later JTA discrepancies. It distinguishes prosecution, administrative detention, release and military enlistment as separate policies. Those proposals cannot establish collective guilt for the assassination. ²

Klir’s October 10 entry says Egyptian aircraft and artillery attacked communities the preceding day. That wording points to October 9, including רוחמה RUḤAMA, נגבה NEGBA, דורות DOROT and נירים NIRIM. It is a later compilation of contemporary accounts; no complete incident-level casualty record was inspected. These attacks are not moved to October 10 merely because that is the entry’s heading. ³
