On 1948-10-14, Day 320 of מלחמת העצמאות MILḤEMET HAʾAẒMAʾUT, the state’s defense, institutions and international relations continued to develop under the second truce. This civil-date account distinguishes actions that day from earlier events reported or discussed in its sources.

What did the Security Council debate?

The Council study links the October 14 discussion to earlier warnings, the assassination inquiry and a proposed resolution. British submission and Chinese co-sponsorship do not establish same-day adoption. The source-backed chronology remains within Truces and Armistices, despite the imminent renewal of major operations. 1

What did the state’s symbol debate establish?

The Provisional State Council discussed emblem proposals and their religious and national meanings. The expanded flag article separates these deliberations from the October 28 proclamation. It would be misleading to turn proposals for a menorah, seven stars or other emblem components into the final flag adopted on this day. 2

What did contemporary diplomatic forecasts know?

A telegram from תל אביב TEL AVIV reported intelligence about a possible Egyptian offensive within four or five days and preparations by the state. The American mission said it could not determine fault in reported truce violations. Forecasts and assessments are evidence of what officials expected, not a settled account of the later operation’s cause. 3 A separate late-night Paris telegram estimated relief needs for January–August 1949 at 468,000 recipients and proposed funding. Those were future program estimates, not newly displaced people on October 14. Its 22:00 civil timestamp places it after sunset on the following Ivrit date. 4

How is this dated?

This is the civil-date recap for 1948-10-14, Day 320 of 599. The date register and Hebcal civil-day convention, without the after-sunset option, give the daytime route י״א בתשרי ה׳תש״ט 11th 𝑜𝑓 Tiŝrei, AM 5709. 5 The civil slot continues after sunset on י״ב בתשרי ה׳תש״ט 12th 𝑜𝑓 Tiŝrei, AM 5709. Each section distinguishes occurrence, document and publication dates; a retrospective entry is not automatically the event date. Estimates remain attributed, and uncertain times are not supplied.
