Operation חירם ḤIRAM advanced in the north, and evidence records murders of civilians and prisoners at صفصاف SAFSAF and on the separate southern front at الدوايمة AL-DAWAYIMA.
Why are the two civilian episodes separate?
Safsaf’s liberation and massacre belongs to the Seventh Brigade’s northern action. AlDawayima’s massacre concerns the 89th Battalion on the southern front. Civilian murder is not erased by either military objective, and the two episodes do not have one chain of command or secure combined death toll. 1 2 3
What did the government say about withdrawal?
The October 29 JTA account reports דוד בן-גוריון DAVID BEN-GURION rejecting abandonment of liberated positions in the נגב NEGEV. The original Council minutes are uncollated, so the dispatch establishes the reported statement rather than an independently checked speech clock. Its defense of military gains does not decide the lawfulness of every soldier’s act. 4
What did the Austrian immigration report establish?
JTA reported organizations discussing faster movement of displaced יהודים YEHUDIM to מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL, including possible revived clandestine networks. That described plans for people seeking a sovereign destination after the Holocaust, not a passenger manifest or a transport departing that day. 5
How is this dated?
This is Day 335 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-10-29. 6 Its public OTD route is the daytime Hebcal conversion כ״ו בתשרי ה׳תש״ט 26th 𝑜𝑓 Tiŝrei, AM 5709, without the after-sunset option. This recap distinguishes actions on the civil day from continuing episodes, reconstructed ranges and later reportage. Events after sunset belong to כ״ז בתשרי ה׳תש״ט 27th 𝑜𝑓 Tiŝrei, AM 5709; each focused study explains its own supported occurrence route.
