Agricultural reporting described the expansion of cultivation in מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL, while diplomats agreed on a draft armistice resolution. Announcements about land and population remain attributed snapshots; the diplomatic draft was not yet a Council decision.
What did the agriculture minister report?
אהרן ציזלינג AHARON ZISLING reported 450,000 dunams already placed under cultivation on land the JTA described as abandoned by Arabs. The report associated the work with government-backed loans and plans for further financing. The number concerns accumulated cultivation, not 450,000 dunams newly cultivated on November 14. It establishes neither an ownership determination nor whether each owner fled, was evacuated or was expelled. The minister’s production estimates also require agricultural records before becoming audited totals. 1
How should the population estimate be read?
בכור שטרית BEḤOR SHITRIT announced about 70,000 Arabs and other non-Jews, including 15,000 Bedouins, excluding residents in Lebanese territory under the state’s forces. This was a ministerial estimate, not the same population universe as the later census discussion. The existing census article keeps those coverage distinctions visible. 2
What was agreed in Paris?
American, British and Canadian representatives agreed on the revised text later adopted as Resolution 62. A telegram sent at 21:00 preserves the wording. Formal submission occurred November 15 and adoption November 16. Because 21:00 is after sunset in Paris, the dispatch belongs to the next Hebrew date; it does not make the whole daily rundown an evening Event. 3
How is this dated?
This is Day 351 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-11-14. The public daytime route is י״ב בחשוון ה׳תש״ט 12th 𝑜𝑓 Ḥeŝvan, AM 5709, checked by fixed-Hebrew-calendar conversion with Hebcal. 4 This article is the civil-day rundown, not a claim that all covered actions share that Hebrew occurrence date. Any event after local sunset belongs to י״ג בחשוון ה׳תש״ט 13th 𝑜𝑓 Ḥeŝvan, AM 5709. Exact clocks, derivative source dates and alternative timing are stated beside each material claim. No audited daily casualty or displacement total is established by these records.
Guided reflections
- What can the cultivation estimate establish about work without establishing ownership or departure causes?
- Why do draft agreement and a later Council vote require separate dates?
