Road preparations extended the reach of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL toward isolated סדום SEDOM, while military activity continued near the southern חברון ḤEVRON hills.

How did the road advance?

The פלמ״ח PALMAḤ institutional chronology places two columns leaving באר שבע BEʾER SEVA at 05:30. The Seventh Battalion column, led by אורי בן־ארי URI BEN-ARI, reached ממשית MAMŜIT, called Kurnub in the account, around 10:00. Another advanced toward عين حصب ʿEIN ḤUṢUB. Engineers and demolition personnel prepared positions and the route. These were advances on November 24; arrival at סדום SEDOM followed on November 25. The Operation Lot study explains the full sequence. 1

What happened during the night raid?

Beni Geshur’s later military history records a raid at Khirbat Wubida during November 24–25. Troops of brigade גבעתי GIVATI did not find the expected supply convoy, demolished houses and withdrew after limited resistance; two soldiers were lightly wounded. The raid’s night span does not establish which civil date contained each stage, civilian presence or household losses. 2

How is this dated?

This is Day 361 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-11-24. TJD converts its daytime portion with the fixed Hebrew calendar to כ״ב בחשוון ה׳תש״ט 22nd 𝑜𝑓 Ḥeŝvan, AM 5709. The slot does not assign every reported action to that Hebrew day. The night of November 24–25 falls after sunset at כ״ג בחשוון ה׳תש״ט 23rd 𝑜𝑓 Ḥeŝvan, AM 5709, even where its exact civil-day clock remains unknown. The Bedouin meeting mentioned in some notes belongs to November 18, not this day: Klir’s November 19 entry says it occurred the previous morning. Its existing study retains that date. 3 4

Guided reflections

  • Why is a road advance different from restoring land supply?
  • What does the Wubida account establish about soldiers, and leave unknown about residents?
