צה״ל ẒAHAL liberated ניצנה NIẒANA, opening the southern route as Operation חורב ḤOREV advanced. Separate reportage described recovery of bodies from an earlier civilian aircraft crash in Greece.
What position was liberated?
The ניצנה NIẒANA study follows the December 26 failure and December 27 success. The location, historically called al-Auja al-Hafir, was inside ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. The following day’s incursion into Egyptian territory was a different act, with different diplomatic consequences. 1
The December 29 bulletin implies December 28 for the position’s liberation. That conflict remains a newspaper-date question; a hypothetical clearing operation is not invented to make every source agree. 2
What did the Greek recovery report establish?
The December 27 dispatch reported army recovery of bodies from an aircraft that crashed December 21 while bringing passengers toward מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL. It gave twenty-four aboard, nineteen of those aboard יהודים YEHUDIM. These are attributed incident figures, not new December 27 deaths. The later accident archive supplies December 21 and preserves conflicting cause accounts; the original investigation is unheld. 3 4
The allegation that bodies had been stripped requires investigation records. It cannot establish the crash’s cause or deliberate attack. The recovery itself illustrates the obligations that migration placed on distant communities and the new state’s representatives.
What evidence would complete the family record?
A passenger manifest, identification records and burial registers would allow each death and family relationship to be checked. The later December 31 report dates most burials to December 30 and describes separate arrangements for two named families. Recovery, burial and onward transfer have their own dates; they are not three separate crash casualty groups. 5
The army’s renewed success and the crash recovery belong to the same daily rundown because they are documented on this civil day, not because the aircraft accident was caused by the battle.
How is this dated?
This is Day 394 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1948-12-27. Its daytime public route is כ״ה בכסלו ה׳תש״ט 25th 𝑜𝑓 Kislev, AM 5709; an occurrence after local sunset belongs to כ״ו בכסלו ה׳תש״ט 26th 𝑜𝑓 Kislev, AM 5709. This route identifies the daily rundown, not the clock or Hebrew date of every event it covers. The institutional history assigns ניצנה NIẒANA’s liberation to December 27; JTA’s later implication of December 28 is retained. The recovery is dated reportage about a December 21 crash, with no new death date invented. 6 7

- Why do recovery and burial not create new deaths after the crash?
