Preliminary counting continued as מפא״י MAPAI led the returns. The stated founding date of גשר הזיו GESHER HAʾZIV joined displaced residents from בית הערבה BEIT HAʾARAVA with North American pioneers. In Washington, Dean Acheson recommended a further recognition decision, which had not yet been issued.123
What did the Abu Ghosh report actually count?
The JTA dispatch describes 174 ballots cast out of 194 possible in Abu Ghosh, with 165 for מפא״י MAPAI. The supplied research instead described 194 reportedvotes. The archive wording supports a distinction between eligible or possible ballots and actual votes. This local report cannot establish how all Arab residents voted or how displaced households were excluded.4
Its opening also calls the election yesterday despite a January 27 publication heading. The secure national date is January 25. That damaged relative chronology should not generate a January 26 second election. The incomplete totals remain useful evidence of what was being reported after the ballot.
What community was being rebuilt?
The founding study adopts the community’s stated January 27 date with its conflicting January 28 and 30 reports. Rebuilding after the loss of בית הערבה BEIT HAʾARAVA is part of the founders’ wartime history. The earlier Palestinian village at the new site also requires a dated account. Establishing a settlement on January 27 does not prove that every earlier resident was expelled that day.56
What did the American memorandum propose?
Acheson urged Truman to proceed toward de jure recognition of the governments of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL and the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. His recommendation connected the earlier recognition promise with the election and emerging political results. The January 31 upgrade was the subsequent act. The memorandum establishes advocacy within government, without moving that effective date backward.7
How is this dated?
This is Day 425 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1949-01-27. Its public OTD route is כ״ו בטבת ה׳תש״ט 26th 𝑜𝑓 Tevet, AM 5709, the daytime fixed-Hebrew-calendar conversion in the checked series register. This slot does not establish the Hebrew occurrence date of every incident discussed. The memorandum is dated January 27. Founding uses the stated 27 date with 28/30 alternatives. The JTA relative election date is inconsistent with the secure January 25 poll. 8 Events after local sunset on this civil date use כ״ז בטבת ה׳תש״ט 27th 𝑜𝑓 Tevet, AM 5709; exact clocks remain unverified unless stated above.
