The dated emblem proclamation and General Amnesty Ordinance bear February 10.

What did the final legislative session adopt?

The dated emblem proclamation and General Amnesty Ordinance bear February 10. Publication and newspaper coverage followed separately. The emblem made a menorah and olive branches part of the state’s public identity. The amnesty directed broad relief from criminal proceedings while excluding murder and other severely punishable offenses and preserving civil liability.12

How were the former underground leaders treated?

The heritage chronology dates sentencing of נתן ילין־מור NATAN YELLIN-MOR and מתתיהו שמואלביץ MATITYAHU ŜMUELEVIẒ to February 10 and release to February 11. The February 11 JTA instead says sentencing occurred today. The court-and-release study retains that conflict and distinguishes underground offenses from a murder conviction that the available reports do not establish. The proposed court conditions also must not be treated as accepted or implemented merely because they were offered.34

What remained prospective or retrospective?

Klir describes the final council session and an expectation of 167 releases the following day. It is not a verified release count. The elected Constituent Assembly was due to convene February 14; that did not happen on February 10. A separate JTA quotes a claim of 1,809 escapes from Cyprus over thirty months, while British officials disputed the figures. That historical claim is not a day’s new escapes or an audited total.56

How is this dated?

This is Day 439 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1949-02-10. TJD converts 1949-02-10 through the fixed Hebrew calendar to the daytime route י״א בשבט ה׳תש״ט 11th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709. Sunset can begin the following Hebrew date, as qualified below.

This is Day 439 of the 599-day civil-date series, 1949-02-10. Its public OTD route is י״א בשבט ה׳תש״ט 11th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709, the daytime fixed-Hebrew-calendar conversion in the series register. The legal instruments give February 10 and 11 Shevat; the newspaper’s relative meeting and sentencing dates conflict. Session clocks remain unresolved. Events after local sunset use י״ב בשבט ה׳תש״ט 12th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709; this daily route does not date every reported incident. 7

Guided reflections

  • Which developments occurred that day, and which reached readers through later or retrospective reporting?
  • What records would turn the attributed figures or proposed measures into a person-level account?
