The shooting of an Arab antizionist leader and diplomatic reporting about neighboring governments marked this civil day. Reports describe different dates and different authorities; they do not form a single new battlefield engagement.
What happened to the Muslim Brotherhood’s founder?
حسن البنا ḤASAN AL-BANNĀ was shot in Cairo on February 12 evening. A later Arabic account places death shortly after midnight, on February 13. The assassination study places the nighttime event on י״ד בשבט ה׳תש״ט 14th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709, separately from this daily slot. His earlier volunteer pledge establishes advocacy of armed antizionism, not a verified force of 10,000.12
Which meeting did the American telegram describe?
William Burdett’s 10:00 February 12 telegram transmitted an account of the February 11 meeting with Tawfiq Abu al-Huda. The prime minister sought Gaza and access to it, discussed refugees and compensation, and said the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan could act for the Kingdom of Iraq in armistice talks. Those were proposals and reported authority, not completed annexation or withdrawal.3
What changed for civilians in this evidence?
The assassination was an Egyptian political death and is not added to battlefield fatalities within ארץ ישראל EREẒ YISRAʾEL. The territorial and refugee discussion concerned already displaced people; it identifies no new group leaving home on February 12. The evidence makes competing governmental aims visible without attributing one government’s program to all Arabs.
How is this dated?
This is Day 441 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1949-02-12. The date register uses its fixed-Hebrew daytime conversion י״ג בשבט ה׳תש״ט 13th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709; after sunset the Hebrew date is י״ד בשבט ה׳תש״ט 14th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709. The shooting occurred after sunset, while the diplomatic meeting was the preceding day. The route identifies this civil-day account and does not assign all related events or reported totals to its daytime Hebrew date.4
Guided reflections
- Why does a February 12 telegram not turn its February 11 meeting into a new event?
- How does separating the shooting’s civil date from its Hebrew nighttime date clarify this rundown?
