An institution of community representation closed as elected national authority approached, while mediators and reception organizations worked on the consequences of the war.
Which institution ended its work?
וועד הלאומי VAʾAD HAʾLEUMI dissolved in ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM on February 13, according to Klir. The full institutional study distinguishes the final council session from unverified dates of individual administrative transfers. Its origin under the Mandate does not place its 1949 dissolution in the Mandate chronology.1
What did Egyptian officials tell the commission?
UN records G/3 and G/4 date two meetings in Cairo to February 13. Foreign Minister Ibrahim Dessouki Abaza urged refugee return before a final settlement and claimed 500–600 refugee deaths daily. The chairman questioned the implications; no mortality register verifies that count. Abaza’s collective attribution of Bernadotte’s killing to יהודים YEHUDIM is also too broad: the perpetrators were members of לח״י LEḤI. A diplomatic allegation is not proof of collective responsibility.23
How were children received?
JTA reports the dedication of the Henrietta Szold reception center near אלונים ALONIM, on Youth Aliyah’s fifteenth anniversary. Weizmann’s wife opened it; יצחק הרצוג YIẒḤAK HERZOG and James McDonald addressed the gathering. This documents organized reception of children doing עלייה ALIYA, not a roster or a count housed there that day.4
How is this dated?
This is Day 442 of the 599-day civil-date series: 1949-02-13. The date register uses its fixed-Hebrew daytime conversion י״ד בשבט ה׳תש״ט 14th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709; after sunset the Hebrew date is ט״ו בשבט ה׳תש״ט 15th 𝑜𝑓 Ŝʾvat, AM 5709. Klir dates the dissolution and UN summaries date the meetings; the reception dispatch says today. The route identifies this civil-day account and does not assign all related events or reported totals to its daytime Hebrew date.5

- What evidence would turn the minister’s mortality allegation into a defensible death count?
