Diplomatic recognition advanced while prisoners returned to their families and the remaining fronts entered negotiations.
What did the UN council recommend?
The membership study explains the March 4 recommendation. It was a step toward admission, not admission itself. The legal wording preserves the separate authority of the General Assembly. Newspaper reports of the vote and the council instrument belong to the same event, not separate membership achievements.1
Who came home from captivity?
The prisoner return study follows JTA’s report of 203 Israeli prisoners reaching ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM. “Last” describes the reported remaining Israeli group held by the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan, not a complete accounting of all missing people. Egyptian exchanges were still prospective.2
What remained open at Rhodes?
JTA reported separate meetings between the mediator and delegations. Authority over the Iraqi front and refugee questions remained part of the talks. Separate consultation did not itself establish a signed general ceasefire. Restoring soldiers to families and negotiating military control were connected tasks with different records of completion.3
How is this dated?
This is Day 461 of the 599-day civil-date series, 1949-03-04. The date register’s fixed-Hebrew daytime conversion is ג׳ באדר ה׳תש״ט 3rd 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709; after sunset it is ד׳ באדר ה׳תש״ט 4th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709. This route identifies the daily recap. It does not assign earlier occurrences, evening movements, cumulative counts or later newspaper issues to the daytime Hebrew date. The cited source dates and reconstructed clocks are distinguished in the sections above and in the linked major studies.4
Guided reflections
- Why did prisoner return and membership recommendation require different measures of completion?
- What remained unresolved when separate meetings at Rhodes continued?
