The Arab League submitted a refugee complaint while relief and housing institutions serving יהודים YEHUDIM planned further immigration and reception.
What did the Arab League allege?
Which movements from Aden were completed?
JTA reported British permission for 850 remaining men to leave Aden, where about 400–500 recently arrived Yemenite יהודים YEHUDIM were also present. Permission was not their departure. The report separately said a fifty-fifth airlift flight to לוד LOD had been completed that day. Flight numbering does not establish a passenger total or show that the newly permitted men were aboard it.3
What did the housing announcement establish?
JTA announced עמידר AMIDAR, a housing corporation with proposed capital of $20 million, divided between government and other institutional interests and intended to raise funds abroad. The plan addressed the practical demands of receiving arriving יהודים YEHUDIM. Announced capitalization did not establish that the money had been paid, bonds sold or homes built.4
How is this dated?
This is Day 470 of the 599-day civil-date series, 1949-03-13. The date register’s fixed-Hebrew daytime conversion is י״ב באדר ה׳תש״ט 12th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709; after sunset it is י״ג באדר ה׳תש״ט 13th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709. This route identifies the daily recap. It does not assign earlier occurrences, evening movements, cumulative counts or later newspaper issues to the daytime Hebrew date. The cited source dates and reconstructed clocks are distinguished in the sections above and in the linked major studies.5
Guided reflections
- Why must the two complaints’ figure of 479 be checked for overlap?
- What distinguishes an Aden departure permit and proposed housing capital from completed movement and housing?
