The commission prepared future consultations while American diplomacy sought to prevent fighting on the central front. Later scholarship separately records killings outside عراق المنشية ʿIRAQ AL-MANSHIYYA.
What did the commission prepare in Beirut?
The UN commission discussed how to conduct forthcoming meetings with Arab governments: general consultation followed by separate conversations. The March 19 minutes anticipated Monday’s meeting rather than recording a completed settlement. Its Jerusalem committee also issued a progress report about deliberations; no international administration of ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM was created that day.12
How did the United States seek to prevent renewed war?
A diplomatic communication treated replacement of forces of the Kingdom of Iraq by the Arab Legion as a possible means of stabilizing the central front and urged restraint. The restored state was negotiating control and access under the risk of another offensive. A proposed handover and diplomatic pressure do not establish a completed transfer of the המשולש HAʾMEŜULAŜ (Triangle) on March 19.3
What violence does later scholarship date to this day?
Morris reports that Israeli sentries killed two Arabs outside عراق المنشية ʿIRAQ AL-MANSHIYYA on March 19. His account also discusses firing on another group during the preceding night, with the number hit unresolved. The underlying military log and person-level records remain necessary to verify identities and clocks. The two dated deaths are not silently merged with the patrol incident near Faluja the preceding day.4
The later complaint study compares civilian guarantees with independent evidence of coercion. Its March 20 cable is a later protest, not the date of these shootings.
How is this dated?
This is the series’ civil-day recap for 1949-03-19, Day 476. The date register and TJD’s fixed-Hebrew conversion assign its daytime portion to י״ח באדר ה׳תש״ט 18th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709; after local sunset the date is י״ט באדר ה׳תש״ט 19th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709. The recap route does not date every incident it describes. UN SR.25 and the diplomatic communication are dated March 19; they prepare future meetings. Morris separately dates two sentry killings to March 19; underlying incident clocks remain unheld. 567

- Why must the March 18 and 19 shootings retain separate locations and dates?
