Prisoners were exchanged on the Lebanese frontier while a proposed transfer from الفالوجة AL-FALUJA was reportedly blocked.
How did prisoners return to their families?
JTA reported a morning exchange of 36 Lebanese prisoners for seven soldiers of מדינת ישראל MEDINAT YISRAʾEL and a reception with relatives. The mixed armistice commission also began meeting. The exchange study compares that report with the treaty’s March 23 signature and 24-hour obligation; it keeps the newspaper’s conflicting yesterday wording visible.1
What happened to the proposed الفالوجة AL-FALUJA transfer?
The same report says plans to move about 400 civilians from الفالوجة AL-FALUJA toward חברון ḤEVRON were disrupted when authorities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan refused entry. This is a report of an attempted movement and its obstruction, not evidence that 400 people crossed the line. JTA’s claim that they chose the destination does not settle whether intimidation affected that choice.2
The civilian guarantees and March 20 complaint remain separate records. No fresh departure total or expulsion order is established by the March 25 dispatch.34
What further diplomacy continued?
At 10:00 and 22:00 the commission considered ירושלים YERUŜALAYIM, further exchanges of views and technical refugee work. The late session debated a tentative communiqué and the proposed mission’s limited role. These are planning discussions, not the completed creation of a body or a peace agreement.56
How is this dated?
This is the civil-day recap for 1949-03-25, Day 482 of the 599-day series. The register’s daytime fixed-Hebrew conversion is כ״ד באדר ה׳תש״ט 24th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709. The civil-day slot does not place every reported occurrence on that Hebrew date: local after-sunset events belong to כ״ה באדר ה׳תש״ט 25th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709, and issue dates remain distinct from earlier events.7
The prisoner report says morning; the commission’s 22:00 meeting belongs to כ״ה באדר ה׳תש״ט 25th 𝑜𝑓 Adar, AM 5709, the following Hebrew day.8910
Guided reflections
- What evidence could establish whether the proposed 400-person movement occurred and how those civilians chose to leave?
- Why must a treaty deadline and a later exchange report keep separate evidentiary roles?
