وبعد بضعة أشهر تسلمت مذكرة موقعة من رئيس الوزارة اليابانية مشتملة على قرار الحكومة اليابانية باستقلال إندونيسيا التام.

فعندئذ أجبت رئيس الوزارة بمذكرة أعربت فيها له ولحكومته عن جزيل الشكر والتقدير وقلت فيها: «لقد أصبح من الواجب، التعاون الجدي مع اليابان، ولكي يكون التعاون عملياً وفورياً فإني أرجو أن تبادر الحكومة اليابانية بتسليح الإندونيسيين وتدريبهم ليحاربوا إلى جانبها».

ومرة أخرى استجابت الحكومة اليابانية لطلبي فشرعت بتسليح بعض الإندونيسيين.

A few months later, I received a memorandum signed by the Japanese prime minister, containing the Japanese government’s decision to grant Indonesia full independence.

I then replied to the prime minister with a memorandum expressing my great thanks and appreciation to him and his government. I wrote: “It has now become necessary to cooperate seriously with Japan. To make the cooperation practical and immediate, I ask the Japanese government to begin arming the Indonesians and training them to fight alongside it.”

Once again the Japanese government responded to my request and began arming some Indonesians.
