ويا صاحب الفخامة...

إن الصداقة التي تربط بلادي ببلاد الولايات المتحدة، والصداقة التي تأسست بيني وبين الراحل روزفلت، والصداقة التي تجددت بيني وبين فخامتكم تجعلني أحرص على المحافظة على هذه الصداقة بتغذيتها والعمل على تقويتها بكل الوسائل لكي أزيل ما يمكن أن يعرقل هذا الصفاء.

ولقد كتبت للراحل العظيم ولفخامتكم حقيقة الموقف في فلسطين والحق الطبيعي للعرب فيها وأن ذلك يرجع إلى آلاف السنين وأن اليهود ليسوا إلا فرقة ظالمة باغية معتدية اعتدت في أول الأمر باسم الإنسانية ثم أخذت تظهر عدوانها الصريح بالقوة والجبروت والطغيان ما ليس بخاف على فخامتكم وعلى شعب الولايات المتحدة.

أضف إلى ذلك أطماعهم التي بيتوها ليس لفلسطين وحدها بل لسائر البلاد العربية المجاورة ومنها أماكن في بلادنا المقدسة.

لقد دهشت للإذاعات الأخيرة التي نسبت تصريحاً لفخامتكم بدعوى تأييد اليهود في فلسطين وتأييد هجرتهم إليها مما يؤثر على الوضعية الحاضرة فيها خلافاً للتعهدات السابقة.

ولقد كانت دهشتي عظيمة حين اطلاعي على البيان الأخير الذي نسب لفخامتكم لأنه يتناقض مع البيان الذي طلبت مفوضية الولايات المتحدة في جدة من وزارة خارجيتنا أن ينشر في جريدة أم القرى باسم بيان أدلى به البيت الأبيض بتاريخ ١٦ أغسطس ١٩٤٦، وذلك البيان صريح في أن حكومة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية لم تتقدم بأية فكرة من جانبها لحل مشكلة فلسطين وأظهرتم أملكم بحلها بواسطة المباحثات بين الحكومة البريطانية وبين وزراء خارجية الدول العربية، وبين الحكومة البريطانية والفريق الثالث، وأظهرتم فخامتكم رغبتكم في اتخاذ تسهيلات في الولايات المتحدة لإيواء المشردين في جملتهم اليهود، ولذلك كانت دهشتي عظيمة حين اطلاعي على البيان الأخير الذي نسب لفخامتكم مما جعلني أشك بصحة نسبته لكم لأنه يتناقض مع وعود حكومة الولايات المتحدة والتصريح الذي صدر في ١٧ آب من البيت الأبيض.

Your Excellency...

The friendship that binds my country to the United States, the friendship established between the late Roosevelt and me, and the friendship renewed between Your Excellency and me make me eager to preserve this friendship by nourishing it and working to strengthen it by every means, so that I may remove anything that could obstruct this harmony.

I wrote to the late great man and to Your Excellency about the reality of the situation in Palestine and the Arabs’ natural right to it, which goes back thousands of years, and about the fact that the Jews are only an unjust, rebellious, aggressive sect. They first attacked in the name of humanity, then began to display openly, through force, might, and tyranny, an aggression whose nature is not hidden from Your Excellency or from the people of the United States.

In addition are their ambitions, which they have planned not only for Palestine but for all the neighboring Arab countries, including places in our sacred lands.

I was astonished by the recent broadcasts attributing to Your Excellency a statement supporting the Jews in Palestine and supporting their immigration there, in a way that affects the present situation there contrary to the previous pledges.

My astonishment was great when I read the latest statement attributed to Your Excellency, because it contradicts the statement that the United States Legation in Jeddah asked our Foreign Ministry to publish in the newspaper Umm al-Qura as a statement issued by the White House on 16 August 1946. That statement explicitly said that the government of the United States of America had not advanced any proposal of its own for resolving the Palestine problem. It expressed Your Excellency’s hope that it would be resolved through talks between the British government and the foreign ministers of the Arab states, and between the British government and the third party. Your Excellency also expressed the desire to make facilities available in the United States to house displaced people generally, including Jews. Therefore, my astonishment was great when I read the latest statement attributed to Your Excellency, which made me doubt that it had really been attributed to you, because it contradicts the promises of the United States government and the statement issued by the White House on 17 August.

Analysis
