[Qutb's text — collated Arabic] ماذا صنعتم لأبطال فلسطين؟ تطلعت وأنا أستعرض قوائم الترقيات الطويلة العريضة لضباط الجيش . وأنا أتصفح أرقام الميزانية الضخمة لوزارة الدفاع وأنا أراجع الاعتمادات الإضافية بعد الميزانية الضخمة . تطلعت لأقرأ خبراً صغيراً أو أطالع اشارة عابرة إلى الأبطال الذين جادوا بأرواحهم وتركوا من خلفهم ذرية ضعافاً ونساء أيامى ، وأمهات ثواكل .. فلم أعثر لهؤلاء الأبطال على أثر ولا خبر . علام يدل هذا ؟ انه يدل على أن روح (سبنكس ) باشا مفتش الجيش الانجليزي هي التي تضلل جيش مصر في عهده الحالي . وأنه يدل على أن روح المندوب السامي الإنجليزي هي التي تضلل جيش مصر في عهده الحالي . وأنه يدل على أن روح المندوب السامي الانجليزي هي التي تسيّر دولاب الحكومة . إنه يدل على أن الانجليز البيض يوم غادروا الادارة الحكومية في مصر لم يتركوا مكانهم خالياً . فقد تركوه للانجليز السمر . الذين يقومون مقامهم ويغنون غناءهم ويتقنون مهنتهم ويحققون اهدافهم في وفاء كامل وفي أمانة واخلاص !! لقد كانت وظيفة الانجليز الأولى في هذا البلد هي قتل الروح المعنوية .

[Sayyid Qutb] What Have You Done for the Heroes of Palestine?

As I reviewed the long, broad promotion lists for army officers, examined the huge budget figures for the Ministry of Defense, and reviewed the supplemental appropriations added to that huge budget, I looked for a small report or passing reference to the heroes who freely gave their lives and left behind vulnerable dependents, widows, and bereaved mothers. I found no trace or report of these heroes.

What does this show? It shows that the spirit of Spinks Pasha, the English inspector of the army, is what leads the Egyptian army astray in its present era.
